Occupy the Oakland Zoo

Yesterday I met my mom at the Oakland Zoo. Neither of us had been there before and we wanted to see how it compared to the Sacramento Zoo.

We had a fabulous time and even though the Sacramento Zoo is probably better, we were surprised at the number of animals they had and the spacious homes each animal had. I always feel bad when you go to a zoo where the animals seem to be squished into a tiny home. But at the Oakland Zoo the animals had more than enough space.

We walked through the whole zoo then rode a train through "Wild Australia" which sadly consisted only of emu and kangaroo. But our favorite part of the visit was riding the Skyride over the animals though I got a little nervous when we were stopped right over the lion cage.

Here are pics from our trip:
The tortoises having a walk off

The sea otters were curious about us. So cute!

I'm a turtle! I can't tell you how long it took to fight off the kids to get a chance to take this photo.

Mom enjoying the beautiful scenery

Bunny trying to hide. This is probably the first zoo to have a bunny exhibit. Imagine my excitement to find these little guys!

Just hangin out with the giraffe and gazelle

Hahaha lovin the meerkats, almost as good as the prairie dogs at Marine World

This guy was all tuckered out

Check out the rack on this thirsty deer

Lazy bison

The lion below us on the Skyride. We got lucky early on to this guy roaring over what looked to be a hairball.  Don't see that everyday.

We were nervous about a fight as this female lion approached

But she just came to snuggle up with him.

These gazelle were running around earlier but tired by the afternoon. Apparently they are being fed well, the gazelle in videos are usually quite a bit smaller.
