Our New(ish) Car

After finding that the repair costs for our station wagon, Zelda, will cost more than the car is worth, we decided it was time to look into another car.

We have been so lucky to have received the car from Matt's parents and then to be able to be a one-car family for more than a year now. I would never have thought that we could have made it so long sharing a car but I must admit it really has been relatively easy.

But neither of us are willing to be a zero car family so luckily our mechanic hooked us up with a lady who had called him trying to get rid of one of her cars. Despite the lady being a bit crazy, and thanks to Matt's patience in dealing with her, we have found another addition to our family.

Meet Hank... our new(ish) car. Yeah he's not new by any means... he is a 1994 Toyota Corolla. And unfortunately for me, a manual transmission, so I'm having to relive my high school days and learn how to actually handle a stick shift. Matt loves it, of course! I'm getting better at it, and I am kind of having fun learning it, until I am on my own sliding back down a hill towards another car :) Can't wait until I get so good I can take it to Lombard Street in SF.

Now I'm sure many of you may be wondering why we would buy a car as old as 1994 but we never want to have a car payment again... and we have made a decision to try to throw as much money as possible to pay off our student loans. So right now we are happy with our old reliable cars.

After getting into the habit of riding our bikes/long boards to work everyday, we don't even know what to do with ourselves now having two cars. I actually feel guilty taking a car to work and leaving my bike alone now.
